Whey Protein Concentrates

Question...

I heard that Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard is the best whey protein?

And I also heard that whey isolates are better than whey concentrates. But when I looked at the ingredients of Optimum Gold Nutrition Standard it says "Other Ingredients: Protein Blend (Whey Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Concentrate." Why does it have the label concentrate under other ingredients if its suppose to be an isolate and the best whey protein in the market?

When i went into the supplement store i was planning on buying Nitro-tech hardcore for 0. I spoke to the people there and they told me that the best whey protein around is Optimum Nutrition Gold standard. I ended up buying Gold because it contained 20grams less fat per serve and because of the difference. To answer your question i have no idea. All i know is that its a pretty good whey protein and also tastes real good. I suggest it.

Whey Protein Concentrate

Back in the history when Whey protein was just introduced in the market, Whey protein powder contained as low as 30-40% protein and contained high amounts of lactose, fats and un-denatured protein. This type of whey protein is known as Whey protein concentrate (WPC).

Nowdays Whey protein concentrate contains around 70-80% of protein with reduced amount of lactose and fats. Because of the marketing of Whey protein Isolates people are under false impression that Whey protein concentrate is inferior to a Whey protein isolate.

I think this is very wrong. Though Whey protein concentrate has less percentage protein than Whey protein isolate, it contains many compounds which are absent in the whey protein isolate.Good quality whey protein concentrate contains higher levels of growth factors such as IGF-1,TGF-Beta 1 and TGF-Beta 2. WPC contains higher levels of various phoso lipids and various bio-active lipids such as conjugated immunoglobulins and lactoferin. Though there is no significant data available to say that these compounds are helpful for muscle mass building and performance but studies do show that these compounds can improve immunity, intestinal health and have many other effects that both body builders and normal people.

The only drawback in using Whey Protein Concentrate is that it contains less protein and high level of Fats and Lactose than a Whey protein isolate if contains are considered in percentage. But this does not mean that Whey Protein Concentrate is always inferior to Whey Protein Isolate. The choice between the Whey Protein Concentrate and Whey protein isolate totally depend on the goals of the individual.

In my opinion Whey Protein Isolate is a better choice for the individual who is tolerant to lactose.
